"I noticed radical changes when he (my husband) participated in this workshop. Of course I didn’t know the content of the workshop, but now I came to know that the teachings of Empower are powerful and change people." ✨
These are the inspiring words of Lenata, a survivor of the Rwandan Genocide Against the Tutsi. After attending a recent Empower program, Lenata shared her testimony of resilience and healing with the CARSA facilitators who run these trauma healing workshops throughout the year.
"My husband was imprisoned for his genocide crimes when he was released, we lived together but his behaviours were not good and he did not want to see me with a person from a survivors' family who were directly affected by his crimes....After Empower, my husband changed and understood that our family needed to have good relationships with our neighbours. We started welcoming them at home and spent a whole day without a problem as we were all bolder and our trust was restored."
Through the Empower program, people begin to engage with their trauma and embark on a journey of hope and healing. Lenata and her husband are one of many courageous men and women who have taken bold steps to move towards wholeness.
"I understood that the lessons were so interesting because when I spoke to him, he used to reply with annoyance, but I was surprised that after the workshop spoke to me with a soft voice and we handled all family issues together. Today, I’m so grateful for getting these lessons, my heart is full of joy, and I know how to use what I have learnt to sustain family development."
